End of Year Service

Thursday 20th June 2019

Today, we celebrated the school year and our achievements at the end of year service. The children received their certificates and Sixth Class got a very special gift from the school. Thank you to Canon Brian O’Rourke for leading the service and awarding the children with their certificates.

The school will be closing at 12 noon tomorrow Friday 21st June for the summer holidays. The school will be reopening on Wednesday 28th August 2019 at 9 am. We look forward to seeing all the children then, ready for another exciting school year!

The staff of St Columba’s N.S want to wish 6th Class all the best as they move onto the next chapter of their lives. We look forward to hearing about all the wonderful things that you will achieve in the future! 🙂

European Projects

Friday 7th June 2019

The children in the Senior Room invited parents in to see their projects on Friday 7th June 2019. The children had food which is typical to their country. Thank you to all the parents that came in to see the projects. Well done to all the children in the Senior Room for the hard work they put into the projects!

Our Chicks

7th June 2019

Look at how big the chicks in the Middle Room have gotten!! Today, they are going back to the farm where there is more space for them to run around. The children in the Junior and Middle Room have loved visiting the chicks and seeing them grow. Hopefully we will get some more next year!

Carlow IT

5th June 2019

The children in 1st to 6th class went to Carlow IT today. In the morning, the children completed two activities. One activity was in the sports lab and the other in a hall. In the lab, the children measured their speed sprinting, how high they can jump and developed strength through squatting. In the hall, the children did a circuit workout and then a relay race.

In the afternoon, the children engaged in the ‘Cell Explorers’ Programme. The children extracted DNA from a banana. The children really enjoyed being a scientist and even got to wear a lab coat!

Thank you to Carlow IT and Ciara for organising the day for the children. They had a great day! Thank you to Claire and Tara for coming along and helping the children and teachers with the activities.

Geography Projects

4th June 2019

We worked in small groups and investigated a country in Europe. We created a poster to display what we learned and we made a building from the country. Didn’t they do a great job?

Ms Brownrigg is very impressed with all the hard work that the children have put into their projects and buildings!! 🙂

The projects are displayed in the hall and parents are invited to come and see them on Friday 7th June 2019 at 2 o’clock.

We will have food, which is associated with each country, available to taste on the day.
